This section is for TH8 Spartans with L3 dragons, or L3+ hogs, or max Pekkas and skill at GoWiPe. Low-level TH8s still relying on L2 dragons are still in the Little Dragon Crew and should refer to the TH7 War Roles page.
AIMS: Target mid-high level TH8s going all-out for three stars (towards the end of war two starred TH8s will invariably become the easiest target for an extra star for a TH9 or TH10 so should end up three starred, so there's very little value in safe two star strategies).
SUCCESS: Aim to be getting a three star attack in on 50% of your attacks, and ask for advice if you're falling significantly below that. Note this does become difficult on the top TH8s. Generally we'll anticipate a couple of covers from TH9s to be needed towards the end of war.
APPROACH: Lightning dragon attacks (these get hard on maxed bases but are normally possible), rage dragloon attacks, or hog attacks (particularly if the base is strong against dragons and has no good double giant bomb spots). On bases with weak walls or few compartments GoWiPe can be an option too (the new Earthquake spell creates more possibilities).
WHEN: Use your first attacks as early as possible. Use your second attacks early too, but if you're one of the last attackers left in your group consider waiting to see whether the Little Dragon Crew need any help cleaning up their bases. Really try to avoid leaving attacks until the last quarter of the war. It makes it harder for TH9s to decide what to hit, and you risk either losing your chance to hit a TH8 or risk there being no cover left if your attack fails.
CLEAN-UP: If all viable bases are 3 starred before you've used both attacks, move into a Little Dragon Crew clean up role. If they have also three starred all bases, seek guidance on what to hit. There may be possible useful stars available higher up (for instance 1 star on a TH10 or 2 stars on a TH9), or there may be helpful scouting attacks you can do on higher level bases that haven't been attacked yet. In the event there are no options left to you, do a practice attack on a three starred base and try to attack earlier next time.
PROGRESSING: Discuss with the clan if you are planning to go TH9. The step from TH8 to TH9 is probably the hardest in the game. Prepare yourself well by upgrading everything, and filling your storages so you can hit the ground running (if you occasionally buy gems, the best time to spend gems on (army related) upgrades is when you're a new TH9). Dragons are of limited use at TH9, so try to have gained some proficiency in GoWiPe and Hogs by the time you move.
